Guyanese artistes collaborate on EP “The Mash Project” for Guyana’s 53rd Republic Anniversary

Mashramani is a significant holiday to all Guyanese and possibly the most anticipated. What contributes to making Masharamani, Mashramani, are the sweet sounds of Soca and Calypso music. There’s no proper celebration in the absence of our music.

Recognising this, a group of Guyanese creatives teamed up to create and launch “The Mash Project”, a musical compilation from some of Guyana’s finest artistes, dedicated to acknowledge and promote things that are uniquely Guyanese, especially during the Mash season, and setting the tone for the 2023 celebrations.

The project was conceptualised by UK Based Guyanese Artiste Pahjo and UK Based Montserratian Producer ShakerHD, and also features Timeka Marshall, Kady Kish, Adrian Dutchin, and a newcomer to the music arena, DJ Energy.

Pahjo

Pahjo said when he heard the riddim created by Shaker, he knew immediately, that it was perfect to use on a project to pay tribute to Guyana, his home. There wasn’t much convincing to be done about the collaboration, as all the artistes approached, were excited and eager to lend their voices to this project.

Timeka Marshall’s song on the track, “Irving street” is so relatable, as Irving Street has been the Mashramani float parade route for decades, and the street where all the other shenanigans go down on Mash day. Marshall said she really liked the track when she heard it, and could not have passed on the opportunity to be part of something so meaningful to Guyana’s culture.

“Place Nice” is Adrian Dutchin’s contribution on the track, and it describes the atmosphere of the country, especially in February. Dutchin too said that he felt honoured to be included in this project.

The newcomer, DJ Energy was elated to debut on the project as an artiste. He said Pahjo and Timeka knew he wanted to become an artiste and after hearing the track, he felt like this was his moment. So he recorded “Dahlin” on the project.

Meanwhile, Pahjo teamed up with Kady Kish, a young soca sensation who was missing from the scene, to give fans one called “Stress Free Fete”. Kady shared her excitement for the project and noted that it was always her dream to work with some of the said artistes.

The riddim also features a collaborative song with the entire cast, entitled Mashramani, a patriotic tribute to beautiful Guyana.

The Mash Project is available on every digital streaming platform.
