Who will be the next Miss Jamzone Queen?

7 Guyanese women to compete for the coveted title

After an eight year hiatus, the Miss Jamzone Pageant is back with a competitive lineup of seven Guyanese women vying for the ultimate crown and title.

Jasmaine Assanah, Jade Mercurius, Shaniya DeCosta, Amel Griffith, Phelicia Adams, Omaiah Hall and Jada Jones will compete in several segments over the next few weeks.

Wednesday evening (July 27, 2022), the delegates were officially sashed by their sponsors and are expected to put on a spectacular show in the first segment, the Fantasy Swimwear category, come Sunday July 31st at Kingston Beach.

This segment is said to be one of the the most exciting, as each delegate is being afforded the opportunity to work with a Guyanese designer, to create an unconventional swimsuit that represents parts of Guyana and brings out their personality and confidence to display on the Jamzone stage.

Wasim Khan, who is the Pageant Director, said they are very proud of the batch of delegates they accepted in the lineup, and the growth they have made over the weeks of training. He revealed that there will be several special segments following the Fantasy Swimwear on Sunday, and the competition will end on coronation night August 13th at the National Cultural Centre.

For more than two decades, Jamzone has been the most anticipated event in Guyana during the July/August period, with several enthralling components that appeal to every age group and cultural background. The pageant became one of the main highlights on the Jamzone calendar of events, and grew to be one of the main tourist attractions, bringing representatives from across the Caribbean to vie for the title.

Executive Director at Hits & Jams Entertainment, Kerwin Bollers

Executive Director at Hits & Jams Entertainment, Kerwin Bollers said that while the return of the pageant this year will not see regional delegates, it is still tourism based.

He explained that the segments are very unique “and really caters to promoting tourism in Guyana”. This, he said is the main reason Miss Jamzone stood out so many years and the team at Hits & Jams Entertainment is excited about its return.

Bollers disclosed that the winner will represent Guyana in different pageants in the Caribbean with similar type of platforms as Jamzone.

With the two-year downtime due to COVID, the entertainment industry is now recuperating, and Bollers assured that next year’s Jamzone and pageant will be bigger and better, with hopes of making it regional again.

The event on Sunday is said to be a day filled with beach games, bikinis, frolic, performances from local artistes, the winner of the Jamzone Song Competition, and over $3 million in cash and other prizes to be won.

Early bird tickets for the Jamzone Beach day cost $2000 and are available at HJ Box Office, That Look Boutique, StoveTop Restaurant, Fireside Grill N Chill, Exclusive Styles, Shop and Save and White Castle Fish Shop.
