Vybz Kartel Delivers on Promise

Four Guyanese Artists Selected for Career-Changing Collaborations

Jamaican dancehall superstar Vybz Kartel has delivered on his promise to provide Guyanese artists with the opportunity of a lifetime, selecting four local talents instead of the originally planned two for upcoming collaborations that could transform their careers forever.

Following preliminary auditions that saw over 50 artists submit their work, approximately 25 were selected for in-person auditions before Kartel and his team. The quality of talent on display proved so impressive that the “Worl’ Boss” couldn’t limit himself to just two selections.

The chosen artists, Carlvin Burnett, Stehigh, Mattick Queen, and GabyLuv, not only secured collaboration opportunities but also had the privilege of sharing the stage with Kartel at the Baderation show held at the Guyana National Stadium last weekend. The event drew over 15,000 attendees, marking one of the largest entertainment gatherings in recent Guyanese history.

In a radio interview following the selection, Kartel said “The quality was so high that I couldn’t in good conscience limit myself to just two. These four artists represent what Guyana has to offer, and I’m excited to work with each of them.”

The selected artists represent diverse styles within the local music scene. Carlvin Burnett, already known as the reigning Dancehall Monarch and former Soca Monarch, brings years of performance experience to the collaboration. Stehigh, whose distinctive sound has been building momentum locally, now faces the prospect of international exposure. Mattick Queen and GabyLuv round out the quartet, each bringing unique elements that caught Kartel’s attention during the intensive audition process.

Beyond the official collaborations, Kartel demonstrated the compassion that has endeared him to fans worldwide by extending a special invitation to Relon Sumner, a visually impaired young artist from Linden. Though Sumner was not selected for the collaboration opportunities, his story and determination moved Kartel to invite him on stage during the Baderation show.

The gesture, which drew emotional responses from the massive crowd at the National Stadium, highlighted Kartel’s commitment to recognizing talent and determination regardless of circumstances. Sumner’s performance alongside the international star provided an unforgettable moment that transcended the evening’s entertainment value.

All selected artists have taken to social media to express their appreciation and excitement about the opportunities ahead. The collaborations are expected to provide not only international exposure but also valuable learning experiences as they work alongside Kartel’s professional team.

The success of the audition process and the Baderation show’s massive attendance have reignited conversations about Guyana’s potential as a significant player in the Caribbean entertainment industry. With 15,000 people filling the National Stadium, the event demonstrated the appetite for high-quality entertainment in the local market.

Music industry observers suggest that these collaborations could serve as a catalyst for increased international attention on Guyanese artists. The partnership between local talent and an established international act provides a template for future initiatives that could elevate the profile of the country’s creative industries.

The preliminary audition process, which attracted over 50 submissions, also revealed the depth of talent available locally. Many artists who weren’t selected for the final collaborations gained valuable experience and exposure through the process, potentially opening doors for future opportunities.

As the selected artists prepare for their collaborative projects with Kartel, anticipation builds throughout the local entertainment community. The recordings are expected to begin in the coming months, with releases planned for both local and international markets.

The success of this initiative, backed by presidential support and executed with professional standards, may establish a precedent for similar programs that connect local talent with international opportunities. For Carlvin Burnett, Stehigh, Mattick Queen, and GabyLuv, however, the focus remains on maximizing this unprecedented opportunity to showcase Guyanese talent on the global stage.

The ripple effects of Kartel’s expanded collaboration program and the successful Baderation show continue to resonate throughout Guyana’s creative community, inspiring artists and demonstrating that with the right support and opportunities, local talent can indeed compete on the international stage.
