Kyra dropped “Under the Sun” and she’s coming for that 2026 Junior Soca Monarch Crown

The 20-year-old Guyanese powerhouse is ready to defend her title

If you haven’t heard Kyra’s name yet, you’re about to hear it everywhere. The Nabaclis-bred soca sensation just released “Under the Sun,” as her battle cry for the 2026 Junior Soca Monarch competition, and the reigning champion is coming to defend what’s hers.

At just 20 years old, Kyra is already building a resume that would make seasoned artists nervous. But interestingly, soca wasn’t even supposed to be her thing.

“Soca was never my thing,” Kyra confessed. Growing up in a musical household where her father sang, young Kyra was all about R&B vibes. Dancehall? Yes. Smooth R&B melodies? Absolutely. Soca? Not so much.

But life had other plans. When she entered the music scene through the Soca and Calypso Monarch competitions, something clicked. What started as an unexpected detour became her highway to success and now she’s driving full speed ahead.

Kyra started experimenting with music at 14, made things official at 17, and by 19, she’d signed with Selector Andre Ent. and since then she’s been racking up wins like it’s nobody’s business:

  • 2023: First place, Junior Calypso Monarch
  • 2024: Second place, Junior Calypso Monarch AND Junior Soca Monarch (a double threat!)
  • 2025: First place, Junior Soca Monarch

And now she’s got her eyes locked on 2026.

So how did this new banger come to life? Kyra and her team were strategising after last year’s competition win, determined to come back even stronger. “We wanted another power soca to go into the competition with,” she explained. After tossing around concepts, “Under the Sun” emerged.

Her fellow soca artist Vintayge delivered 95% of the lyrics and melody perfectly tailored to Kyra’s style.

While “Under the Sun” is definitely her 2026 Soca Monarch entry, Kyra made it clear that fans shouldn’t get too comfortable, there are more singles coming before the competition rolls around.

But the bigger picture isn’t just to collect trophies. “My musical goal is to be one of the biggest musicians coming out from Guyana and to make it a business,” she stated.

Kyra went from being an R&B-loving teen who wasn’t checking for soca to becoming one of Guyana’s most exciting rising stars in the genre. That’s not just talent, that’s adaptability, drive, and pure determination.

“Under the Sun” is available now on all streaming platforms. Give it a listen, then get ready to see Kyra defend her crown come 2026.
