A model of the pre-fab home

Steel Buildings Guyana Inc., an entity under the Hits and Jams umbrella, launched its Steel Framed Pre-Fab homes yesterday, displaying a fashionable model that was built in just 3 weeks at HJ’s head office in Queenstown.

This method of construction comes with many benefits which were shared by Technical Engineer of Light Guage Guyana, Nicholas Belle, who is the construction partner in this venture.

Here are some reasons why you should choose a Steel Framed Pre-Fab home:

You will own your home in 6 weeks!

While this may raise your eyebrows at the sound of it, this is actually an extremely good thing for several reasons. In addition to being able to move in your own home, with the speed of the construction, from the financial standpoint, it reduces the lengthy bridging loans. This also removes any additional expenses like long term rent. Thus, the money being used to pay rent while your home is being built, can be put to paying off your loan since you will have no long term rent.

The materials used are non-combustible and durable

The question that comes after hearing that your home will be built in 6 weeks, is the question of durability and safety. Director of Hits and Jams Entertainment, Kerwin Bollers assured that these Pre-Fab homes allow them to fuse affordable and fashionable without compromising on quality. The pre-fab homes are constructed with galvanised steel that comes with a G ninety coating, making it even more durable and indestructible. All the materials used internally and externally are non-combustible, which means they do not burn. That pays good advantage to the insurance sector because it lowers your risk portfolio.

It is termite resistant

In addition to being extremely, durable, the materials are also termite resistant. This takes away the fear of your home rotting over time, and extends the period of having to do any repairs.

Excellent seismic activity which reduces cracking

Another feature that adds to the durability of these pre-fab homes is that they are very good with seismic activity because the materials are screwed and not nailed, and they are not as rigid as concrete. As such when you do have that seismic activity, the structure moves with the movement of the earth, which reduces any cracking within the system.

Your design is not limited

While there was one model displayed at the launch, it is important to not that your design is not limited to the one you see in the photos. There is nothing that cannot be accomplished with the steel frame structure. From low to high-end facilities and high-end structures, it can take any modern architectural finishes. Tray ceilings, flat ceilings, pitched, the choices are endless.

It is affordable and fashionable

Fashionable and affordability seldom go together. But with these pre-fab homes, the materials being sourced and the time frame in which it takes to be built, allows for affordability. In fact, CEO of Hits & Jams, Rawle Ferguson mentioned that this initiative was birthed out of the company’s passion to afford youths the opportunity to own homes. “Growing up, it was always a dream to own your own house. Our dream at Hits and Jams, is always to get young people to be responsible, having their own. This model, this system that we have here, will get you that,” he said. The model on display is a modern 2-bedroom home which amounts to the value of $8.5M.

Supports the upskilling of local artisans and engineers

This new way of building homes was brought to Guyana’s shores by a team of Barbadian engineers. The team found it key to not bring too much Bajan influence in Guyana, but rather to try to enhance the local Guyanese artisans to harness their skills by teaching them the new technical and engineering methods. Supporting the pre-fab homes ultimately supports and enhances the skills of young Guyanese with interest in engineering and construction, providing even greater avenues for employment.

It was endorsed by the Ministry of Housing

At the launch ceremony, the Ministers responsible for housing acknowledged the genius of the venture, and encouraged Guyanese to make good use of this service being offered by Steel Buildings. Minister within the Ministry of Housing, Susan Rodrigues said Guyana has to adopt to changes and not be afraid welcoming new technology in construction methods, “so that we can get where we want to go faster.”

“The sooner you stop paying that rent, and you start paying your mortgage, it’s better for you. You’re paying towards an asset that you will ultimately acquire one day, something that you can leave for your children. And this is what we aspire in the housing sector, for all Guyanese. Not just to be able to get a house lot, but to be able to move into your own home, and to enjoy the safety and the security, and the family life that that opportunity to own your own home provides you with,” Minister admonished.
